Commisions

My specialty is creating as a commissioned artist. I enjoy working with a client to find a particular interest and developing a unique idea.

The process of commissioning a work has several stages. First the application is decided. Glass can define an environment with light, color, or theme; it can be understated, elegant, or provocative. It can offer privacy while still allowing light into a room - views can be highlighted, partially or completely obscured.

Next a budget is agreed on. This gives the best start to design and material choice. It helps know time constraints also. At this point, there is a deposit to go toward design time.

There are two ways to approach completion. A concept can be presented as one or two color sketches. This may not do the final project justice, as it is hard to represent glass and there may be some changes to design- but it would give the client a general idea. Or the client may choose to let me complete the work without a presentation/approval sketch. This would be appropriate for less complicated concepts.

Completed pieces that are available for sale have been priced according to design and construction time, as well as materials. I have custom frames made from quality hardwoods or steel to fit each piece.

In commissioned work the main factors the complexity of design and materials. For instance, two makes of glass may appear similar, yet one sheet may be machine - made and the other higher quality, individually hand blown.

Each piece I make is internally reinforced. This is a superior method and tremendously frees up the visual lines but adds to the construction time. External reinforcement is applyed as required according to the size and application of the panel.

I look forward to discussing a potential project and answering any other questions you may have.
